Any change in this appearance warrants evaluation. Warning signs include: white or red patches anywhere in the mouth, a sore that bleeds easily and doesn't heal within two weeks, a lump or thickening in the cheek, difficulty chewing, swallowing, or moving the jaw or tongue, a persistent sore throat or feeling that something is caught in the throat, and numbness or pain in any area of the mouth or face. Dr. Jenkins performs incisional and excisional biopsies in our office under local anesthesia. The tissue sample is sent to an oral pathology laboratory for microscopic analysis, and results are typically available within 7–10 days.
